When to Fix-It-Yourself and When to Call an Electrician

Messing with electrical appliances and components is serious business. Hello, my name is George Tanner. I’m a retired electrician. I can’t even begin to tell you how many horror stories I heard over the years of working as an electrician. People who thought they could quickly fix something in their homes but never should have even tried. Some got hurt and others were lucky. My goal here is to provide you with some guidelines as to what electrical malfunctions are easily fixable by nearly any adult, and what you should never attempt on your own. One thing you are going to hear me stress more than once is that electrical components are not to be taken lightly. We protect our children from them; we also have to protect ourselves. I hope you find this blog to be helpful!

Love To Paint? 2 Tips For Turning Your Spare Room Into An Art Studio

If you love to paint and have an empty spare room that is not used, you can turn it into your own art studio. Not only will this give you a quiet place to paint, but it will also increase the value of your home. Below are two tips on getting this room ready for your paints and easel.

Artist Easel

You will need enough surface to work on to do your painting. One of the easiest ways to have enough surface is by using an artist's easel. You should consider your canvas size and pick an easel that can support the weight.

Two types of easels you will find are H-frame and A-frame artists' easels. If the spare room is small, you should consider an A-frame, as it can easily fit into the corner of your room. Remember, though, a smaller A-frame will not hold as much weight. H-frame easels are sturdier, which will allow for heavier canvases.

If you purchase the H-frame easel, because it is larger, you should make sure it has wheels so you can roll it around the room if you need to.

Your art studio has to have good lighting. The best type of light is natural light coming from a window. If your studio does not have large windows, you will need to put the lighting in yourself. The best lighting to use is an overhead light if natural light is not an option. This could be any type of overhead fixture, recessed lighting, or track lighting. Overhead light is important because it gives you light that is evenly distributed throughout the room.

Before you choose the type of overhead lighting you want, you will need to choose the right bulbs. Incandescent light will not work well because it gives off a yellow light. The best type of light for you to choose for your art studio is fluorescent lights. These lights will give you a high quality light. Besides the type of light, you will have to consider the color temperature. 6500K lights are considered to be the brightest and most like the sun, 5000K lights may be a better choice because they give off a nice white light.

You should hire an electrician to install your lighting for you. They can also add more outlets to the room if you need them while they are there. It is much safer to use an electrician than to do this yourself, as installing electrical wiring wrong could result in a fire.
